SHARED VISUAL EXPERIENCE
VISUAL ART
Where words can’t communicate effectively, images can evoke incredible feelings and emotions in people. Images can recall a common memory and even a national visual experience. Images can remind us of heroes, bravery, childhood, national events, memorial days, et cetera. For example, when I see a painting of Rostam (an Iranian hero in ancient Persian literature), I experience a feeling reminiscent of heroism, while my American peer can get the same feel from the hero of Hollywood movies like Batman and Superman.
My work draws from my own experiences in academia and working environments in the United States, where I am exposed to visuals that are entirely different from my background. When confronted with these images, my mind unconsciously recovers images from my past experiences and associates them with my new environment. In A Shared Visual Experience, I illustrate a visual immersion of two cultures (Iran and America) using popular heroes and iconic characters to make humans more sympathetic to each other and, consequently, encourage more effective communication.
To enhance my concept, I decided to animate it and provide an immersive experience through Augmented Reality. Scanning the QR code allows the audience to enjoy this interactive experience, where touching the screen initiates the animation.
