Weaving Visual Identities Beyond Borders

In this thesis, “Weaving Visual Identities Beyond Borders Through Immersive Experience,” I have tried to bridge the gap between Iranian and American visual cultures through a synthesis of artistic expression. By integrating elements from both cultures, this work does not merely place them side by side but instead weaves them into a new, cohesive visual language that encourages dialogue and understanding.
The journey through my MFA thesis reflects a deep commitment to exploring mutual understanding and cultural synthesis.

The figures of Rustam and Batman, among others, have served as cultural waypoints that, despite their distinct origins, converge through shared universal values of bravery, love, and justice. These iconic characters have provided more than just artistic subjects; they have acted as conduits for cross-cultural conversation and understanding.

Throughout my exhibition, I invited viewers to engage with these new visual stories, prompting reflections on cultural identity, integration, and the potential for an interconnected global community.

Inspirations

These Persian miniature paintings from the Shahnameh showcase intricate storytelling, vibrant colors, and layered compositions. They form the cultural and visual foundation of my work, inspiring how I approach narrative and design.

Merging this tradition with the dynamic world of comic books, I reimagine iconic characters like Batman and Catwoman through a Persian lens.

I animated each frame and interviewed diverse groups of Iranian and American participants to capture their experiences with this intercultural design. Their voices and stories are woven into the animations, enriching each scene with personal insights and perspectives.

To enhance my concept, I decided to animate it and provide an immersive experience through Augmented Reality. Scanning the QR code allows the audience to enjoy this interactive experience, where touching the screen initiates the animation.
